Position Paper #4 Wild Card
Top PR Firms
For my wild card paper, I wanted to do something directly involving public relations. To be directly linked to public relations, you have to know what it is and how it works. Public relations whose abbreviation is PR is Public relations is the practice of managing and disseminating information from an individual or an organization to the public in order to affect their public perception. Public relations and publicity differ in that PR is controlled internally, whereas publicity is not controlled and contributed by external parties (PR Wiki). Public relations is marketing and advertising one's brand or image to the public in a positive light. Public relations showcases specialists managing and organizing someone's brand, company, or a celebrity. A public relations professional is in charge of creating and executing a PR strategy, helping a business or individual cultivate a positive reputation through various unpaid or earned channels and formats, including press, social media, and in-person engagements. They also help clients defend their reputations during crises that threaten their credibility (Public Relations Blog). Public relations makes you cautious of how a brand, company, or a celebrity is perceived by the public. Public relations opens the door to exposure. Mostly PR specialists are there to make sure the brand, company, or a celebrity is shown in a good manner and diverts anything negative. Public relations is the bridge between brand, company, or celebrity and the public. Public relations shows you what it wants to show you and nothing more.
The feedback from the public allows PR specialists to execute a better perception of how you see things. The most common use of PR is through social media and press. Companies, brands, and or celebrities release press and social media usage to appeal to the public. Whether or not when something is bad or negative publicity, it is not clear if the client is the one to initiate the apology or message or the PR team influences them. Either way the PR team cleans up the mess. Basically with every good publicity comes bad publicity. PR teams have to do a credible job to balance both. For some it could work; they can use their bad publicity to their advantage and make them more popular. Or the latter, it could damage the client as a whole. There is one company PR team that can't seem to catch a break. The company is Johnson and Johnson. Johnson and Johnson PR team is working overtime to save this company from any more dire crisis but it seems things are not in their favor. I know the J & J PR team has tried to salvage this company to revive but things are not going according to plan. In this wild card paper, I will give top PR firms.
